A Modern Retreat on the California Coast: Inside the Home of Designer Isabella Hartley and Entrepreneur Daniel Foster
And so it is with the California coastline-from its crashing cliffs and fierce winds to its sun-kissed, soft beaches-it has captured the imagination of many creatives: their much-esteemed entrepreneurs, as well as of its resident designers. Among many, as with Isabella Hartley and Daniel Foster, who is a tech entrepreneur, it inspired their dream-stealing longing that one day would evolve into reality-an idyllic retreat away from the bustle of city life. “We had been renting homes along the coast for years, but wanted something of our own-somewhere that felt like home but also felt like a getaway,” says Hartley, whose fashion label, Hartley & Co., has been a fixture in high-end boutiques.
Inside the Avant-Garde Loft of Artist Lucia Lang and Musician Julian Rowe
In the vibrant heart of Brooklyn’s art scene, Lucia Lang and husband Julian Rowe have mastered a curious blend of avant-garde artistry married to the familiar comforts of home within their eclectic loft space. Born and raised in France, Lang is an internationally exalted sculptor and bronze sculptor, while Rowe is an experimental musician-people known to be breaking national boundaries in their artistic and musician lives. Yet, their apartment in Brooklyn narrates a different but equally creative story of balancing an everyday way of life with someone who is crazy about the avant-garde.
Jennifer Aniston’s Dream Home: A Hollywood Star’s Journey in Interior Design
Jennifer Aniston is synonymous for so many reasons with diverse effortless styling and ageless graceful personality, strings that are equally intricated into her interior design style. The Friends star is known over the years for her perfect taste; when she took on her Bel-Air mansion, it wasn’t just home renovation but creativity homecoming journey-heritage and green living as well.
From the Archive: A Timeless Midcentury Retreat in the Heart of Santa Monica
With Marissa Hayes opening her totally contemporary mind up to a hugely colorful and sensibly patternistic designing world, she would know when it would actually be necessary to take a back seat and allow simplicity to pull through. Founder of the luxury brand Lark & Coast, which is known for very bright prints yet organizes its collections in mostly minimalist silhouettes, Hayes has basically shaped her field around building pieces that say something. At the same time, though, within that sprawling mega-structure in Santa Monica is one completely different approach: this 1,500-square-foot mid-century bungalow, shared with her partner, filmmaker Adam Hayes, now serves as the ultimate peaceful retreat.
A Serene Brooklyn Loft Inspired by the Tranquility of the Desert
Grace Langley, a renowned interior designer, set up this tile-surfaced loft at the Brooklyn place to develop it into a beautiful, peaceful retreat reminiscent of the deserts. The journey starts with simply a card-gift from a very dear friend on a definite milestone in her life. Grace, the artistic friend, painted a gentle watercolor card in appreciation. Such little appreciation turned out to be in a way the beginning of a strong and wonderful project together. The friend mustered courage and asked if Grace would help in designing her invitations for her ceremony in a very private rustic desert retreat. The seed for a beautiful design partnership was planted right there.
